The purpose of the Outdoor Recreation Grant Program is to increase and enhance outdoor recreation facilities. Eligible projects are for park acquisition and /or development/re- development including picnic shelters, playgrounds, athletic facilities, trails, boat accesses, fishing piers, swimming beaches, campgrounds, • and others. This program is for cities, counties and townships. The highest priority projects are for acquisition, development and re- development of outdoor recreation facilities. The Outdoor Recreation Grant Program is a very competitive program with hundreds of grant applications submitted annually. Projects selected to receive a grant receive assistance of up to 50 percent of total eligible costs. Therefore, if a grant application was submitfed and subsequently awarded, the City of Lino Lakes would need to commit 50 percent of the total project cost. This could come from a combination of the General Fund, Park Dedication fund, or other sources. The matching funds would need to be available by next year. These costs must be incurred and paid for before reimbursement can be made. am considering applying for a matching grant in the amount of $125,000 for the development of Clearwater Creek Park. If the City Council is comfortable with staff submitting a grant application, a Public Hearing is required to obtain citizen input on the proposed Outdoor Recreation Grant Application. I would recommend that the Public Hearing be held at the Monday, February 12 City Council meeting. Also, a Resolution would need to be approved authorizing staff to submit an application for the Outdoor Recreation Grant. The deadline for submittal is March 31, 2001.
