AGENDA ITEM 5B <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Linda Waite Smith, City Administrator <br />MEETING DATE: February 12, 2001 <br />TOPIC: Consider Approval of AFSCME Contract for 2001 <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Negotiation of a proposed 2001 labor contract with the AFSCME bargaining unit has <br />been completed. The union membership voted to ratify the proposed contract last week. <br />The city council needs to ratify it before it can be adopted. <br />Changes from the previous contract include: <br />1. A three percent cost of living adjustment, retroactive to January 1, 2001. <br />2. Inclusion of two additional positions (actually existing positions that were re- <br />classified based on current duties): Office Manager- Public Services and Accounting <br />Clerk- Utility Billing/PC Technician. <br />3. Providing a uniform allowance for the two Building Inspectors and one <br />Environmental Specialist ($355 annually, the same as the Local 49 contract <br />provision). <br />4. Market adjustments to three positions: Secretary C, 2 %; Senior Coordinator, 4 %; <br />Community Service Officer, 4 %. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Approve the proposed 2001 labor contract with AFSCME. <br />2. Decline to approve the 2001 labor contract with AFSCME. <br />3. Return to staff for further review and/or action. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />1. Option #1: Approve the proposed 2001 labor contract with AFSCME. <br />
