AGENDA ITEM 1C
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Jean Viger
DATE: August 27, 2001
TOPIC: Consideration of Application for Block Party, South Glen
Circle
VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority (3/5 Vote)
BACKGROUND:
Attached to this agenda item is a request to hold a block party in the Cul -de -sac,
South Glen Circle, on September 14, 2001 starting at 5:00 p.m. and ending at 8:00 p.m.
Also attached is a map showing the location of the proposed party and the signed petition
from property owners acknowledging they have been notified of the party. These
property owners are indicated by the slant marks on the map. As stated on the petition,
two homes are new and at the time of this application were not occupied. Ms. Lisa
Handrich was unable to get signatures from the other two homeowners because they were
out of town. However, the block party has been held in the circle for the past two years
with signatures from both addresses and she sees no reason either homeowner would
object, in fact quite the contrary.
The Police Department and the Streets Division of the Public Services Department have
received information regarding the block party and have informed me they do not have
any safety concerns about either party. Public Services Streets Division will provide
barricades and a police officer may stop by to introduce himself/herself and answer any
questions that residents may have.
OPTIONS:
1. Approve application for the block party.
2. Return to staff for further information.
RECOMMENDATION:
Option No.1
•
