• <br />• <br />• <br />AGENDA ITEM 4A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Dan Tesch, Director of Administration <br />MEETING DATE: November 13, 2001 <br />TOPIC: Consider Approval of AFSCME Contract for 2002- <br />2003 <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Negotiation of a proposed 2002 -2003 labor contract with the AFSCME bargaining unit <br />has been completed. The union membership voted to ratify the proposed contract last <br />week. The city council needs to ratify it before it can be adopted. <br />Changes from the previous contract include: <br />1. Market adjustments effective January 1, 2002, to positions below the average for <br />metro area cities of similar size according to the 2001 DCA Stanton Salary Survey: <br />Building Inspector; Building Official; Utility Billing Clerk; Accounts Payable Clerk; <br />Secretary; Utility Billing Clerk/MIS Tech. <br />2. Three percent cost of living adjustment effective January 1, 2002. <br />3. A $75 increase in employer monthly contribution to family health care coverage, <br />effective January 1, 2002. <br />4. Half of any increase in premiums for family health care coverage when the new plan <br />year begins September 1, 2002. Employees will pick up the other half of any <br />increase. <br />5. Three percent cost of living adjustment effective January 1, 2003. <br />6. Half of any increase in premiums for family health care coverage when the new plan <br />year begins September 1, 2003, until the end of the contract on December 31, 2003. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Approve the proposed 2002 -2003 labor contract with AFSCME. <br />2. Decline to approve the 2002 -2003 labor contract with AFSCME. <br />3. Return to staff for further review and/or action. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />1.
