AGENDA ITEM 3C <br />STAFF MEMBER Daniel Tesch, Director of Administration <br />DATE 12 April 2004 <br />SUBJECT Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) <br />VOTE REQUIRED 3/5 <br />BACKGROUND <br />As a municipality, the City of Lino Lakes is required to comply with the Health <br />Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ( HIPAA). The purpose of this act is to insure the <br />privacy and portability of individual employee's health insurance. In order to comply with this <br />act, the city must appoint an individual to serve as Privacy and Complaint Official. It is our <br />recommendation that the Director of Administration be appointed'as the Act relates to a Human <br />Resource function. <br />OPTIONS <br />1.
