This rookery and the birds it produces
are important to Audubon and we appreciate the protection Lino Lakes provides.
I understand that the City Council is considering the removal of the "sunset clause"
from the no -wake boating ordinance on Peltier Lake. All evidence to date indicates that
the no -wake ordinance has been instrumental in reducing disturbance to the nesting birds
and in encouraging the continued presence of this heron colony on Peltier Island..
Therefore, I urge your support of the amendment to remove the sunset provision on the
no-wake zone for Peltier Lake. With your continued wise stewardship of this colony,
Audubon Minnesota members and other Minnesotans can look forward to enjoying the
presence of these birds in Lino Lakes and surrounding communities for many more years.
Thank you for your consideration of these comments. Please enter this letter into the
record during the public comment phase of the ordinance review process.
Yours truly,
Mark Martell
Director of Bird Conservation
Interim State Director
mmartell@audubon.org
cc: Marty Asleson
printed on 100% po
