C 1 T Y F
IN L KES
MEMORANDUM
DATE: June 7, 2004
TO: City Council
FROM: Michael Grochala
RE: LaMotte Drive Water Main Extension
City of Centerville
The City of Centerville is currently proceeding with the reconstruction of LaMotte Drive,
from its intersection with Heritage Street to its corporate limits with Lino Lakes. The
project will include the extension of water main to service property within Centerville.
LaMotte Drive provides the only access to the Lake View Place and LaMottes 2nd
Addition residential developments within Lino Lakes. This area is currently serviced
with sanitary sewer but has no existing municipal water service. From a financial and
engineering viewpoint the supply of water to the area from the Centerville system is the
most feasible alternative. In discussions with Centerville, staff has requested the
extension of the water main to the corporate limits (approximately 80 feet) to allow for
future water service to the Lino Lakes developments and to avoid the need to reconstruct
a new street within Centerville.
The estimated cost of the extension is approximately $9,000 that would be funded from
the City's Trunk Utility Area and Unit fund. One property within Lino Lakes can be
serviced by the extension subject to the City's assessment policy upon connection.
A Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) will need to be approved by Lino Lakes and Centerville
to provide for water services. Staff will be working with the City Attorney and City of
Centerville to develop the agreement.
Attachments
1.
