The most recent group to receive the upgrade was our public works
employees in the 2004 -2005 contract. Our goal is have all of our benefits as equal as possible.
For that reason, it is our recommendation that the personnel policy (applies to non -union
employees) be brought into line with the rest of our work force.
The current schedule is as follows:
Years of Service Accrued Unused Sick Leave
After 10 years 25%
After 15 years 33.3%
After 20 years 50%
Proposed
Years of Service
After 10 years
Accrued Unused Sick Leave
50%
This past month, Mr. Barry Bernstein, Recreation Supervisor with the city for the past 13
years resigned his position to join the city of Hastings. Ban-y was a valued employee and should
not be penalized because policy has not been updated. Therefore it is staff's recommendation
that this policy update be retroactive to 1 July 2004.
OPTIONS
1. Update the severance provision of our personnel policy retroactive to 1 July 2004
2. No update the severance provision of our personnel policy.
RECOMMENDATION
Number 1.
