WS -2
WORK SESSION MEMORANDUM
To: City Council
From: Michael Grochala
Date: March 5, 2006
Re:
Work Session Item 2
I -35W /Lake Drive Improvement Project
PROJECT STATUS
Design
Final Design for the project has been completed and submitted for Mn /DOT for
final approval. Staff will be requesting council approval of the plans and
specifications and authorization to advertise for bids at the March 12 City Council
meeting. The project schedule is proposed as follows:
City Approval of Plans & Specs/ Advertise for Bids
Bid Opening
City Awards Contract
Start Construction
Substantial Completion
Final Completion
March 12, 2007
April 13, 2007
April 26, 2007
May, 2007
June, 2008
October 2008
We have reached agreement with Mn /DOT on the aesthetic design of the bridge.
The bridge exterior will include a "cracked" granite block relief with a three color
stain applied. The east side of the bridge, adjacent to the trail, will include a iron
railing matching the existing railing within the Woods Edge Development. A
graphic of the bridge design will be available at the work session.
Streetscaping options on Lake Dr are somewhat limited, but where applicable we
are carrying forward design elements from the Legacy at Woods Edge project.
Landscaping efforts are being concentrated around the two ponds adjacent to
the Marshan Lane residential area in accordance with the council's previous
direction.
1
