204B.16 Polling Place Designations <br />• Polling place shall be located within the boundaries of the precinct or within one mile of one of <br />those boundaries... <br />• No polling place shall be designated in any place where intoxicating liquors or malt beverages <br />are served or in any adjoining room. <br />• Under HAVA (Help America Vote Act) polling places must be accessible to voters with <br />disabilities. <br />• It shall be of sufficient size to accommodate all election activities within the building (approx. <br />1500 -2000 voters) and parking lot. <br />• Agreeing to be a polling place must be a Tong -term commitment <br />• Having a polling place in a place of business (heavy traffic) may be an unpleasant experience for <br />voters. <br />• Election Judges must gain entrance to polling place at 6 a.m. and remain until 9:30 p.m. <br />• Public Works must deliver supplies /equipment and set up each polling place the day before the <br />election and pick up supplies the morning after. Upon delivery to polling place, the supplies <br />must be secured as there is confidential information in the supply box. <br />• Signage..bumper stickers, posters etc. are not allowed with 100 feet of the building on election <br />day. Customers would not be allowed to wear campaign material such as buttons, t -shirts etc. <br />while shopping in the store. An election judge would have to stand watch at the entrance(s) and <br />turn them away on election day. <br />• Subd. 7 (part) The space must be separated from other activities within the building. <br />• We are in need of a polling place in the southern portion of the city..Target, Kohl's, the hotel , <br />are too near our Northern precincts. <br />• Changing the municipal elections from odd to even years would save the city approximately <br />$12,000. as that is the estimated cost of odd -year elections(Election judge wages, postage, <br />supplies, printing & publishing of notices and ballots). <br />
