•
•
•
STAFF ORIGINATOR:
CC MEETING DA'L'E:
TOPIC:
AGENDA ITEM 6,& .
Paul Benztson
April 12, 2010
Resolution No. 10 -26, Denying a variance to the number
and area of accessory structures allowed on a rural site.
1288 Main Street
BACKGROUND
Sandy Nordstrom has requested approval of a Variance from the number and area limits for
accessory structures in order to build a 42 foot by 88 foot detached accessory structure at 1288
Main Street. The property is located on the south side of Main Street approximately 2,000 feet
east of the Interstate 35W overpass, and is currently developed with a dwelling and a horse farm.
The applicant has indicated that they have a lease over another parcel consisting of approximately
17 acres. This land is not considered towards the accessory structure number or area calculation as
the property isn't under their ownership /control except for the term of the lease.
At the March 22, 2010 meeting the City Council voted to table this item for discussion at the
April 5, 2010 work session and April 12, 2010 City Council meeting. A work session report was
prepared by staff and distributed for the April 5, 2010 work session. This focused on the
ordnance language and asks the City Council if the ordinances should be changed to better serve
the residents of Lino Lakes.
This request was submitted on February 10, 2010. The sixty day review period allowed under
state law would expire April 9, 2010. A letter extending the review period another 60 days (June
8, 2010) was mailed to the applicant on April 2, 2010.
ANALYSIS
Comprehensive Plan, Land Use and Zoning: The table below identifies the existing land
use and zoning as well as guided land uses for the area.
Location
Existing Land Use
Guided Land Use
Existing Zoning
Site
Single Family Dwelling
Low Density Sewered Residential
Rural
North
Single Family Dwelling
Low Density Sewered Residential
Rural
South
Agricultural Land
Low Density Sewered Residential
Rural
East
Single Family Dwelling
Low Density Sewered Residential
Rural
West
Single Family Dwelling
Low Density Sewered Residential
Rural
