• <br />• <br />Vehicle Operation <br />• Traffic rules and regulations shall be obeyed by all City employees except those <br />emergency vehicles, which have other specified authorization during certain times <br />of emergency. <br />• Drivers shall be alert, careful and courteous toward pedestrians and other drivers <br />and comply with all applicable motor vehicle laws and regulations. <br />• Vehicles or equipment shall not be used in a manner for which they are not <br />designed. <br />• Motor vehicles or accessory equipment shall not knowingly be operated in a <br />dangerous or defective condition. If problems cannot be corrected immediately, <br />notify supervisor. <br />• Seat belts shall be worn by all drivers and passengers using City vehicles pursuant <br />to State Statutes. <br />• When driving a City owned vehicle, you are responsible for insuring that <br />passengers are safely in the vehicle before starting it <br />• City vehicles shall be checked before use. If any defects are found, they must be <br />reported to your supervisor immediately, per State Statutes <br />• No vehicles shall be allowed to idle in closed areas or structures, unless properly <br />vented. <br />• Employees should secure loose tools and equipment on the floor or behind the <br />seat of the truck cabs or in the front floor of passenger cars. <br />• City vehicles are to be refueled only when the engine has been shut off and no <br />lighted smoking materials shall be within 50 feet of refueling area. <br />• In the event of a vehicle accident or injury the Police shall be contacted and a <br />report generated that includes all details of the accident, including the names of all <br />parties involved. In addition, the employee shall immediately report the accident <br />or injury and details to their immediate supervisor. This shall apply to all <br />accidents involving City owned vehicles or personal vehicles used while attending <br />to City business. <br />• Vehicles left unattended and not in use must be properly secured and keys <br />removed to prevent accidental movement, theft, and unauthorized use (i.e., motor <br />off, power takeoff equipment inoperable, power buckets and shovels grounded). <br />• Eating, use of cell phones, texting and the use of any other distractive device (i.e. <br />laptop computers, GPS's) while operating a moving vehicle is strongly <br />discouraged. All communications, whenever practical, should be made with the <br />vehicle in a stationary position. Hands free devices shall be used when available. <br />• City owned vehicles shall not be towed or pushed except by authorized tow trucks <br />and City owned vehicles shall not tow or push privately owned vehicles. <br />Equipment /Slow Movine. Vehicle Operation <br />• A slow moving vehicle is one that is designed to move at a speed of 25 mph or <br />less. <br />
