Pecchia <br />Public Safety Director /Chief of Police <br />DATE: May 10, 2010 <br />TOPIC: Police Week 2010 <br />VOTES REQUIRED: Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND <br />Police week was designed to recognize the service given by the men and women who, <br />night and day, selflessly stand guard in our communities to safeguard the lives and <br />property of their fellow Americans. On October 1, 1962 President John F. Kennedy, <br />proclaimed May 15 of each year as Peace Officers' Memorial Day and the calendar <br />week of each year during which May 15 occurs as Police Week. <br />Staff is requesting that council acknowledge and read the attached proclamation in our <br />support of designating May 9 to May 15, 2010, as Police Week, and May 15th as Peace <br />Officer's Memorial Day in the city of Lino Lakes. <br />OPTIONS <br />1. Motion to approve <br />2. Motion to deny <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Option No.1 — Approve support of Police Week 2010 <br />
