• <br />• <br />• <br />Council Member introduced the following resolution and moved its <br />adoption: <br />CITY OF LINO LAKES <br />COUNTY OF ANOKA <br />RESOLUTION NO. 10 -68 <br />English as the Official Language of the City of Lino Lakes <br />WHEREAS, the English language is the common language of Lino Lakes, the State of <br />Minnesota and of the United States; and <br />WHEREAS, the government of Lino Lakes can reduce costs and promote efficiency in its roles <br />as an employer and a government accountable to the people , by using the English language in <br />its official actions and activities; and <br />WHEREAS, this Resolution would not prohibit the city from using other languages for common <br />sense, non - official reasons that serve the public interest, <br />and <br />WHEREAS, those reasons would include, but not limited to the protection of public health, and <br />public safety, the promotion of tourism, the administration of justice and the handling of <br />emergencies. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lino Lakes that: <br />1 English shall be the official language of the government of Lino Lakes except as <br />otherwise provided herein. <br />2. The City of Lino Lakes will not expend public dollars for the translation of any official <br />documents or publications. All official documents, transactions, proceedings, meetings, <br />or publications issued, conducted or regulated by or on behalf of or representing the City <br />shall be in English. Official actions of Lino Lakes which bind or commit Lino Lakes or <br />which give the appearance of presenting the official views or position of Lino Lakes shall <br />be taken in the English language <br />3. Nothing in this resolution shall be interpreted as conflicting with the statutes of the United <br />States or the State of Minnesota <br />4. Language other than English may be used when required: <br />A. To teach or encourage the learning of languages other than English; <br />B. To protect the public health, sanitation, and public safety; <br />
