PUBLIC HEARING to consider Amending sections of Cha pter 1010 of the City <br />Code relating to the regulation of signs in electio n years <br /> <br />Michael Hyden arrived at 6:36 p.m. <br /> <br />City Planner, Jeff Smyser, presented the staff repo rt. Staff recommended approval of the <br />City Code Amendment. <br /> <br />Staff addressed questions of the board. <br /> <br />Board members suggested that the city consider limi ting the size and material of <br />noncommercial signage during non-state election yea rs. It was suggested that staff refer <br />to the existing city requirements for temporary sig ns. <br /> <br />Vice-Chair Pogalz declared the Public Hearing open at 7:10 p.m. <br /> <br />There was no one present to speak. <br /> <br />Mr. Hyden made a MOTION to Close the Public Hearing at 7:10 p.m. Motion was <br />supported by Mr. Nelson. Motion carried 5 - 0. <br /> <br />Mr. Laden made a MOTION to recommend approval of Am ending sections of Chapter <br />1010 of the City Code relating to the regulation of signs in election years, to include a <br />revision to the proposed text that would replace al l of the existing paragraphs (13)(a) and <br />(b) and read as follows: <br /> <br />(13) Signs in Election Years: In state general ele ction years, the provisions of <br />Minnesota Statute 211B.045, as amended, shall apply . Notwithstanding other provisions <br />of this chapter regulating the allowed size or numb er of signs, in city election years all <br />temporary noncommercial signs of any size may be po sted in any number without a <br />permit from 46 days before the city election until ten days following the city <br />election. Other requirements of this chapter, incl uding those regarding the location of <br />signs, shall continue to apply. <br /> <br />Motion was supported by Mr. Evenson. Motion carrie d 4- 1.
