McGruff House
TM A BITE car OF
RIME
"'
\> A McGruff House is a temporary haven for children who
fmd themselves m emergency or frightening situations such as being bullied, followed, or hurt
while walking in a neighborhood.
McGruff House provides emergency assistance for children as they go to and from school and are
at play. McGruff providers will telephone appropriate authorities for help, reassure and aid
children who are frightened or lost, and assist children who have medical emergencies by getting
appropriate help. The McGruff House program also assists those who are in immediate fear of
becoming victims of personal crime or thefts, child abuse, gangs, or bullies and report crimes and
suspicious activities to law enforcement officials.
Special Programs
Junior Public Safety Citizen's Academy
2005 was the inaugural year of the Junior Public
Safety Citizen's Academy. Youth resource
Officer Brown coordinated an after school
program that introduced middle school aged
children to the duties and skills of police fire and
emergency medical personnel. Modeled after the
program presented to adults, it is yet another way
that the department can make contact with the
public we serve, and positive contacts such as
this at an early age can be an investment that
reaps rewards for years to come.
Lino Lakes Police Department 2005 Annual Report
12
