• SILVERA MEMORIAL
Council member Carlson has requested the opportunity to discuss the issue of designating
a memorial, possibly a park, to Officer Silvera. She has also requested that this issue be
first on the agenda as Jennifer Silvera will be present, but has another meeting that she
needs to leave for.
Last April, during discussion of the legislation designating the Shawn Silvera Memorial
Highway, other possible forms of recognition were briefly discussed by the Council.
Naming a park was suggested as well the idea put forth by Officer Silvera's friends and
co- workers of the Lino Lakes Police Department that a memorial be constructed at the
Police Station. Some thought and research had been put into a possible design, theme
and cost for that memorial. The minutes from that meeting note "that eventually a City
policy should be drafted regarding memorials within the City ". It was concluded that at
some time in the future this policy will be developed and discussed by the Council.
Staff wishes to make the Council aware of Resolution No. 98 -47 which regulates the
naming of parks within the City. It is my understanding that this resolution was passed in
response to a request to name a park after a family member.
•
