Environmental
Memo
To: Jeff Smyser
From: Marty Asleson
Date: January 31, 2008
Re: Main Street Village Landscape Plan
The landscape plan has been changed to reflect most of the recommendations of the
Lino Lakes Environmental Board. I did notice however that within the maintenance
schedule under long term maintenance of sheet 16, item number three states that
haying (3 -5 year rotation) late summer or early fall —use haying in place of buming
stated. This is not a practice that can replace buming or intensive hand labor
removal of non - native and aggressive plant competition removal. In addition, the
transitional seed spec in most of the pond areas is a lower stature plant mix that
would not be conducive to haying.
In the discussion of "temporary crop" or "establishment of native seed ", if a temporary
crop is needed, language should not contain the use of any top soil. The specs
should include some provision for watering if the climate should get very dry after
native seed starts to germinate, until establishment.
I do not see any details for irrigation in sod areas. Irrigation is required in all areas to
be planted with sod and should be shown on the plan.
• Page 1
—59—
•
