Statement 2
Staff, you have an obligation to work together with the city council as a body to provide
your experience and expertise to the city council so it can make the best possible
decisions.
Statement 3
We all must understand that on those occasions where the city council moves in a
direction different from your recommendations that should not be viewed as a criticism
of your capabilities or a lack of respect for you.
Statement 4 (Rules of Engagement)
We need to understand that we can disagree but we do not have to be disagreeable or
hurtful. Bad behavior is not an effective means to resolve disagreements.
Statement 5
We need to recognize the quality of the team that we have. In our opinion we have an
excellent staff and an excellent city council. We need to empower each other to reach
our fullest potential.
Statement 6
The city council will be working to establish a process where staff can raise relationship
issues and seek resolution. Such processes are well established in general employment
practice and in union contracts, but there is currently not a process to deal with
council /staff relationships.
Statement 7
We can't change the past, but we can seek to change the future. We both have an
obligation to do this. We understand that there may be a wait and see attitude on the part
of some staff, but we need to work together and move ahead.
Statement 8
We all need to remember why we are here. We all work for the people of Lino Lakes. We
need to work together to maintain the public's positive attitudes about Lino Lakes that we
saw in the Quality of Life Survey. And we need to work together to guide the future of
our city as we complete the Comprehensive Plan and begin its implementation.
17
