Studenski, City Engineer <br />COUNCIL MEETING DATE: July 14, 2008 <br />TOPIC: Resolution No. 08-69, Accepting Plans and Specifications and <br />Authorizing Request for Quotes, 2008 Surface Water Management <br />Project. <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND: <br />After storm sewer, storm water ponds and drainage ways are constructed, they <br />require periodic maintenance to ensure their effectiveness. To maintain the <br />effectiveness of the storm sewer system, cleaning of pipe sections, catch basins, <br />manholes and flared ends where silt has accumulated must be completed. <br />The City conducts yearly reviews of 20% of the City's MS4 outfalls, sediment <br />basins, storm sewers, and ponds to comply with NPDES requirements. We have <br />now completed our 5th year which means our entire storm sewer pipe system <br />has been inspected. <br />The 2008 Surface Water Management project consists of the cleaning of the <br />pipe sections, catch basins, manholes and flared ends identified in the yearly <br />NPDES reviews of storm sewers from 2008, public works identified projects, and <br />through resident concerns as shown on the attached map. <br />The project schedule is as follows: <br />City Council Accepts Plans and Specifications July 14, 2008 <br />City Council Request for Quotes July 14, 2008 <br />City Council Awards Contract. August 11, 2008 <br />Construction Begins August, 2008 <br />City staff has prepared the plans and specifications for this work and is <br />requesting Council approval to advertise for bids. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that Resolution No. 08-69 be adopted. <br />
