Chapter 7: Sanitary Sewer and Chapter 8: Water Supply
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of the Sanitary Sewer and Water Supply Plans?
The purpose of these plans is to identify municipal sewer and water improvements necessary to
accommodate Lino Lakes' future growth consistent with the Land Use and Utility Staging Plans.
Will I be forced to "hook -up" to municipal sewer and water services?
No, existing residents will not be forced to connect to new sanitary sewer and water infrastructure unless
your septic system fails and services are available. It is the City's policy to permit unsewered residential
properties to remain as long -term land uses, and to extend sanitary sewers into unsewered subdivisions
only at the request of the property owners or as part of a trunk line extension. Those residents who
would like to connect to sanitary sewer and water when infrastructure is available will be able to do so
and will be assessed; however no one will be forced to connect to sanitary sewer and water services
when available. Should you choose to connect to municipal sewer and water at a later date, you will be
assessed at that time. The exception is if a property has a failing septic system, it will be required to
connect to the municipal sewer system if available.
Who will pay for sewer and water services as the City grows?
Sewer and water infrastructure needed to service new growth will not be subsidized by existing Lino
Lakes residents. City policy requires new developments to pay all capital improvement costs for sewer
and water infrastructure, including lateral sewer and water mains to serve new subdivisions. Sewer and
water connection charges applied to new development will provide funding for the construction of future
trunk sewers and water mains, water towers, and wells.
Why does the Future Sanitary System /Water Supply System map show a lift station /well
house /water tower on my house?
The Sanitary System and Water Supply maps are conceptual only, showing the general vicinity where
future facilities will be needed. When future facilities are constructed, detailed plans that take into
consideration existing development, topography, wetlands, and other site features will be developed to
show the exact location.
