The City of Lino Lakes is a growing Minnesota community of approximately 20,000
in southeast Anoka County, in the northern part of the Twin Cities metropolitan
area. The city offers its residents a quiet, country atmosphere within a 20- minute
drive of both downtown Minneapolis and St.
Paul. Both Interstates 35W and 35E intersect
the city, providing much potential for contin-
ued commercial and industrial growth.
The city covers an area of 33 square miles. Its
geography is influenced by the 3,500 -acre Rice
Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park Reserve
which cuts a large swath through the center
of the community. The park reserve, operated
by Anoka County, provides many recreational
opportunities with its 13 lakes, interpretive
center, campgrounds, golf course, and more.
The City of Centerville is also completely sur-
rounded by Lino Lakes. Other growing com-
munities including Hugo, Blaine, Shoreview,
Columbus and North Oaks abut Lino Lakes.
As the population grows, Lino Lakes is attract-
ing more retail and service uses. The major
shopping area is MarketPlace development,
anchored by SuperTarget and Kohl's. The city does not have a traditional down-
town, but has planned for the development of a mixed -use town center which to
date has all utilities in place, a YMCA, the city's civic complex, affordable housing,
clinic, hotel and community green.
The total 2009 general fund budget is $10,064,722. The city has its own Police De-
partment, and fire protection is supplied by the Centennial Fire District through a
joint powers agreement serving the cities of Lino Lakes, Circle Pines and Centerville.
The Community Development Department includes Planning, Engineering, Build-
ing, Environment and Economic Development. The Public Services Department
includes four divisions — parks, recreation, public works (streets, fleet management
and utilities) and government buildings. Public works maintains and improves ap-
proximately 200 lane miles of roads and provides a safe and efficient water supply.
Nineteen neighborhood parks and 17 miles of paved trails are maintained by the
city.
Community Leadership
Lino Lakes strives for active community participation in decision making. Begin -
ing in 2007, the city has undertaken a three -part planning process, starting with a
community survey, a visioning process, and fi-
nally the updating of the city's Comprehensive
Plan. The draft plan is close to completion and
the city believes extensive community input
has resulted in a plan that will direct the city
in a direction of quality growth and economic
development, while retaining and enhancing
the unique natural resources that make the
community a great place to live.
The successful city administrator candidate must be able to positively interact with
all levels of the community including individual citizens, neighborhoods, business
leaders and civic organizations.
The State of Minnesota's Correctional Facility is located in Lino Lakes, along with the Anoka
County Juvenile Center. Other major employers include Molin Concrete, AdGraphics, and
Hereaus Medical Components located within two major business parks in the city.
