• <br />• <br />AGENDA ITEM 3Aii <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Mary Divine, Economic Development Coordinator <br />MEETING DATE: July 13, 2009 <br />TOPIC: Requests to Use City Property for Blue Heron Days Event <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />BACKGROUND <br />Participants in Blue Heron Days are requesting use of city -owned property for five <br />festival events. The properties are: <br />1. Land adjacent and south of the American Legion for the purpose of the <br />Lions Club operating a petting zoo on August 22 (a general location map is <br />attached); <br />2. Land adjacent and east of the American Legion for the purpose of the <br />hosting a family picnic on August 22 (location map is attached); <br />3. The City Hall property (inside and /or outside) for the purpose of the Quad <br />Chamber of Commerce's "Commerce and Crafts" business expo on August <br />22; <br />4. City -owned land to be used by Patriot's Bank's medallion /treasure hunt to be <br />conducted August 17 -21; <br />5. The grassy area of the community green for the purpose of Magic Bounce <br />Party Rentals, a Lino Lakes business conducted by Brian Gilbertson, which <br />will offer a variety of inflatables for family entertainment. Brian will charge a <br />fee for his services. He will work with the public works department to ensure <br />that any staking of the inflatables on the grass will not interfere with <br />underground sprinkling. <br />Staff has been in contact with the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust staff to <br />determine appropriate insurance requirements to minimize any liability exposure to the <br />City and will carry out those recommendations. <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />Should the Council find it acceptable to grant permission to use city property for these <br />festival events, a motion granting such permission is requested by staff. <br />
