MEETING DATE: August 24, 2009 <br />TOPIC: Consideration of Approval of EDAC 5 -year Strategic <br />Plan and 2010 Action Plan <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) has as its directive to help the <br />city council encourage growth of new and existing business. EDAC has revisited and <br />updated its long -range economic development plan and one -year action plan per the <br />economic development goals in the draft Comprehensive Plan. The five -year plan is <br />intended to be a general guide for economic development, while the one -year plan <br />outlines more specific goals and objectives based on current market conditions, <br />opportunities and constraints. <br />The Tong -range plan reviews past accomplishments and recognizes that the slowdown <br />in market conditions is a time for preparing Lino Lakes to be well prepared to manage <br />future economic growth. EDAC's focus is on attracting high value industrial, business <br />and services to the community that have an emphasis on job creation and provide <br />needed goods and services to the residents of the city. <br />EDAC's one year - action plan focuses on facilitating the redevelopment of the <br />intersection of Hodgson Road and County Road J, and working with the development <br />and investment community to complete the Town Center while being adaptable to <br />current market conditions. EDAC is also working on developing criteria for evaluating <br />prospective development so that EDAC and the city council can work together to <br />balance the rights of property owners, residents and developers in order to achieve <br />development that improves the community as a whole. <br />OPTIONS <br />1.
