Pecchia <br />Public Safety Director /Chief of Police <br />DATE: September 28, 2009 <br />TOPIC: Consideration of Resolution No. 09 -79, accepting a <br />$336,645 Recovery Act Justice Assistance Grant. <br />VOTES REQUIRED: Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Lino Lakes Police Department is requesting council to adopt Resolution No. 09 -79, <br />accepting the Recovery Act Justice Assistance Grant of $336,645 from the Office of <br />Justice Programs. This grant funds one officer from 10/1/2009 through 9/30/2011, and <br />a second officer for the time period 1/1/2010 through 12/31/2011. These non - <br />supplanting funds will be utilized to continue transitioning the police department from <br />Problem Oriented Policing to Intelligence Led Policing. Intelligence Led Policing is a <br />data driven, best practices approach to crime reduction. The goal of the project is to <br />produce useful crime maps and analysis that help administration direct resources with <br />the overarching goal of reducing crime and improving the quality of life. <br />OPTIONS <br />1. Adopt Resolution No. 09 -79, accepting the grant. <br />2. Retum the Resolution to staff for further information. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Option No. 1 <br />• <br />
