ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD MEETING February 27, 2013 <br />APPROVED MINUTES 3 <br />Mr. Asleson presented the board with monthly totals and stated that <br />there was an increase on the months that the advertising post cards <br />went out to residents. Mr. Asleson also stated that the annual city wide <br />recycling day is Saturday, May 4 this year. <br /> <br />Ms. O’Dea asked what the difference was between the monthly <br />recycling and the yearly recycling day. Mr. Asleson stated that the <br />yearly one will have new this year a paper shredder locked container <br />for residents, mattress drop off for a charge of $15.00 as well as the <br />usual vendors as in the past. Mr. Asleson said that residents are <br />notified in the city newsletter and a newspaper ad. Ms. Andrzejewski <br />recommended that a postcard would also be a good way to notify <br />residents. <br /> <br />Mr. Asleson stated that there is a need to get people more involved and <br />thinking of recycling and Ms. Bor suggested in doing a youtube video <br />on the subject. Ms. Andrzejewski suggested that the elementary <br />schools could make a video and hold a competition. <br /> <br />D. Emerald Ash Borer Update <br /> <br />Mr. Asleson stated that a complete inventory of all the trees has been <br />accomplished. There is a plan and Public Works will help with taking down <br />some of the trees and treating other trees within the city. There are three safe <br />chemicals that you can use to treat the trees. Only one of these you have to be <br />a licensed applicator. <br /> <br />Ms. O’Dea suggested that Mr. Asleson may want to look into doing a <br />cooperative with some of the nearby cities in helping keep the cost down in <br />treating the trees. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />E. Project Updates <br /> <br />A. Wollan’s Park Wetland Banking <br /> <br />Mr. Asleson stated that the City is still waiting to get clear title from the State <br />and County. <br /> <br />B. Preserves <br /> <br />Mr. Asleson stated that they are still working with engineers with the wetland <br />areas. Biggest issue is getting the flow to Clearwater Creek. Ms. Bor was <br />hoping that it would not be piecemeal together.
