A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Jeff Smyser <br />P & Z MEETING DATE: May 12, 2004 <br />TOPIC: Discussion: Special Meeting on Temporary Signage <br />BACKGROUND <br />Because of lengthy agendas for the past several months, the P & Z has not had the opportunity to <br />discuss the temporary signage issue to any great extent. Discussions of the issue began at the <br />June 2003 meeting, and was tabled repeatedly. The last time we discussed this at all, the P & Z <br />decided to have a special meeting devoted solely to the topic. Last month, staff suggested June <br />16, 2004 and asked the board members to check their calendars. <br />We would like P & Z to confirm this date so staff can send out notices to business owners. <br />Recall that we sent a letter in October. A copy is attached. We will use the same letter with new <br />dates. We will add some businesses to the list, since a few opened since the last letter. <br />We are not attempting to mail a letter to every single business in the city. As noted in the fourth <br />paragraph of the letter, we tried to select representative businesses, and invited them to inform <br />any other business owner who might be interested. <br />The ultimate goal is to prepare amendments to the sign ordinance that will address temporary <br />signage. We remind the P & Z members that signage is a difficult issue to capture and the effort <br />likely will take some time. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Confirm meeting date. <br />
