Setbacks <br />The setbacks for accessory buildings are established per zoning district. A typical R -1, <br />Single Family Residential District requires a 5 foot side and 5 foot rear setback. <br />Accessory buildings are not allowed in the front yard. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff is requesting Board discussion regarding the City's current accessory building <br />requirements. <br />1. Should the allowed square footage of accessory buildings and garages be based on <br />the percentage of lot area or buildable land? <br />a. Buildable land does not include wetlands and/or water bodies. <br />b. See Attachment #1 for example. <br />2. Should the allowed square footage of accessory buildings and garages <br />differentiate between Rural Districts (R, R -X and R -BR) and Residential <br />Districts? <br />a. Example: Rural Districts based on percentage of lot size and Residential <br />Districts maximum 1,200 square feet total. <br />3. Is 20 foot height acceptable for residential accessory buildings? <br />a. Should maximum sidewall heights be included in ordinance? <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />1. Buildable Area Example <br />2.
