MAY -26 -2000 16:31 <br />TKDA 651 292 0083 P.03/11 <br />REVIEW DRAFT <br />05/26/00 <br />Caliper inch (Replacement Tree) means the diameter of a tree measured at twelve (12) <br />inchcs above the ground. <br />Caliper inch (Significant Tree) means the diameter of a tree measured at breast height <br />(DBH). For multi - stemmed trees, the diameter shall be measured at the widest point of <br />the largest trunk stern between one foot and 4.5 feet above ground. <br />Canopy mcans the extension of a tree's branches in all directions from its trunk. <br />Canopy coverage means the area on a horizontal plane that is located under the crowns of <br />all the trees on the site. <br />Coniferous. (evergreen) tree means a cone - bearing woody plant which, at maturity, is at <br />least 12 feet or more in height, having foliage on the outermost portion of its branches <br />year - round. <br />Construction area means any area in which movement of earth, alteration in topography, <br />soil compaction, disruption of vegetation, change in soil chemistry, or any other change <br />in the natural character of the land occurs as a result of the site preparation, grading, <br />building construction or any other land disturbing activity. <br />Critical damage mcans injury that results in tree removal or significant alteration of the <br />natural form of the tree due to inappropriate pruning or other actions. <br />Critical root zone (CRZ) means the circular area surrounding a tree trunk with a radius <br />distance of one and one -half (1 'h) foot per inch of tree diameter, measured at DBH (e.g. <br />a 20 -inch diameter tree has a CRZ with a radius of thirty (30) feet). The minimum CRZ <br />for any tree shall be six (6) feet. <br />Deciduous tree (Large) means a woody plant which, at maturity, is more than 30 feet in <br />height, having a defined crown, and which sheds its leaves annually. <br />Deciduous tree (Mediwn) means a woody plant which, at maturity, is between 15 and 30 <br />feet in height, having a defined crown, and which sheds its leaves annually. <br />Deciduous tree (Small) means a woody plant which, at maturity, is between 12 and 15 <br />feet in height, having a defined crown, and which sheds its leaves annually. <br />Developer means any person or entity other than a builder, as defined herein, who <br />undertakes to improve a parcel of land, by platting, grading, installing utilities, or <br />constructing or improving any building thereon. <br />Diameter means the length of a straight line measured through the trunk of a tree. For <br />multi- stemmed trees, the diameter is measured through the widest point of the largest <br />trunk stern. <br />2 <br />
