ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD MEETING JUNE 30, 2010 <br />Ms. O'Dea stated she read an article on parasitic wasps that seem to have had a <br />positive effect on EAB. Mr. Asleson stated there has not been a conclusion on <br />this at this time. <br />4. Community Gardens <br />John Norblom, Master Gardener and City of Lino Lakes' resident was present to <br />update the board on community garden projects in other communities and to <br />discuss Lino Lakes' future community garden. This project is one of the <br />Environmental Board goals. Mr. Asleson stated he wants to set up a game plan to <br />be followed. He stated it would be a good idea to set up a public meeting just <br />before school starts and invite residents to attend. Mr. Norblom stated he could <br />be in attendance for this planning meeting. He presented an agreement from the <br />American Community Garden's Association to give an idea of what guidelines <br />would be useful to follow. Ms. O'Dea stated we need to use various methods to <br />advertise to the public to see how many people would be interested in a <br />community garden. It was stated there should be advertising on the City's <br />website, fall newsletter and contact a local paper to see if they would be willing to <br />donate a space for advertising. <br />Mr. Asleson stated he would email a link to the Community Garden Association <br />to board members. <br />5. Addition: Chestnut Tree — Dave Roser <br />Mr. Asleson presented resident Dave Roser's proposal regarding harvesting seeds <br />from his chestnut tree this fall and donating the seeds to the Environmental Board <br />and City with the hope to have a suitable spot to start a grove of chestnut trees in <br />Lino Lakes. <br />Ms. Bor stated growth tubes could be put in her meadow to see if the trees will <br />take. Mr. Asleson stated he could find a few areas in the City for this as well. <br />Ms. Bor stated Peltier Island may be a good place for this also. <br />It was decided that the Board will accept the seeds and determine where to plant. <br />6. Addition: Storm Water Stenciling <br />Mr. Asleson stated an Eagle Scout contacted him regarding a storm water <br />stenciling project. He stated there are 739 storm drains in all. He stated this <br />project may be too extensive for the Eagle Scout. He stated he has a meeting with <br />him next Wednesday. The stencils and paint have been ordered. <br />7.
