4.7. Erosion & Sediment Control
Issues
Water Quantity, Water Quality and Erosion Control are priority issues for the City. Rice Creek and its
tributaries have been subjected to increased surface water runoff carrying heavy nutrient -rich sediment
loads, road salts, and hydrocarbon -based contaminants consistent with development pressures.
Increased discharge rates have caused serious down- cutting and stream bank erosion. Present water
quality conditions present a potential stress to the diversity and population sizes of fish and aquatic
invertebrae indigenous to these systems.
Goals & Policies
Goal: Develop proper mitigation measures to allow disturbed environments to recover as quickly as
possible.
Policy: Establish erosion control practices for new and re- developments.
4.8.
