ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD MEETING October 26, 2011 <br />The offsite recycle event held October 3 -7 at Freimuth Enterprise in East Bethel <br />reportedly took in 19,940 lbs. of recycled appliances and electronics. <br />B. Anoka County Solid Waste Management Plan <br />Mr. Asleson reviewed items from the last Anoka County Task Force meeting <br />Waste Reduction, Reuse, and Recycling <br />Task Force reviewed policies and strategies in regards to recycling for residential <br />and non - residential. <br />Ms. O'Dea stated neighborhood parks should have recycled cans and well as <br />refuse. <br />Mr. Asleson stated he will inventory what the City has under its control for the <br />next meeting. He stated we may be able to use SCORE funds towards recycling <br />improvement. <br />C. Changing to One Recycling Contractor Discussion. <br />Mr. Asleson presented his staff report to the Board. The objective is to investigate <br />and discuss a single contract for recycling. <br />The City Council has asked staff to look into the benefit/cost of having a single <br />license for recycling and curbside pickup. A resident sent a letter to the Council <br />inquiring about organized solid waste. <br />It was stated an obvious benefit would be less trips up and down residential <br />streets. Each carrier makes many trips up and down city streets. <br />Mr. Asleson presented contracts and cost comparisons of several cities in Anoka <br />County to the Board. <br />It was stated the examples are pretty straight forward for each contract. What they <br />recycle, holidays, etc. <br />Mr. Heiskary stated a cul -de -sac alone could possibly have 4 different trucks on a <br />recycle day. <br />Mr. Asleson stated 50% of Cities have organized recycling. <br />DRAFT MINUTES 2 <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />
