• <br />• <br />• <br />Woolan's Park Wetland Bank Part B: Appendix 2 <br />Critical Connections Ecological Services, Inc. <br />January, 17th 2012 <br />Page 6 of 8 <br />Mow and create required burn breaks, and implement prescribed burn plan in October of first year <br />(October). <br />Broadcast native seed (if additional seed is utilized) to prescribed seeding areas following prescribed <br />burn (October through November). <br />Year 2 Vegetation Establishment and Management Schedule: <br />Spring: <br />Apply herbicide to re- emerging invasive species populations, including reed canary grass, phragmites, <br />cattail, common and glossy buckthorn, honeysuckle, and amur maple (May and June). <br />Monitor overall vegetation establishment from existing seed bank and areas seeded with native seed <br />mixes the prior fall (June). <br />Summer: <br />Monitor areas that have been allowed to establish with existing seed bank and where seeded areas with <br />native seed mixes took place the prior fall (June through September). <br />In late summer, apply appropriate wetland herbicide to re- emerging invasive woody and herbaceous <br />species, such as reed canary grass, phragmites, cattail, common and glossy buckthorn, honeysuckle, and <br />amur maple. Broadcast and spot treatment of invasive species will likely be necessary (September). <br />Fall: <br />Monitor vegetation establishment during second growing season. Note areas with poor native seed <br />bank viability. Plan seeding of such areas for late fall (September). <br />Order native seed, if necessary (September). <br />Broadcast native seed to prescribed seeding areas prior to snow cover and frost establishment (October <br />through November). <br />Year 3 Vegetation Establishment and Management Schedule: <br />Spring: <br />Spot treat areas of re- emerging invasive species, including reed canary grass, phragmites, cattail, <br />common and glossy buckthorn, honeysuckle, and amur maple (May and June). <br />Monitor overall vegetation establishment from existing seed bank and areas seeded with native seed <br />mixes the prior fall (June). <br />
