Typically, F. autumnalis occurs at slightly higher elevations where
the soil surface is only moist and the vegetation is dominated by short- stature Carex spp. (sedges). The
substrate is usually sandy with perhaps a thin layer of organic material such as peat.
Marginated rush (Juncus marginatus) is a species of shallow wetlands and wetland margins on
the Anoka Sand Plain. Low - stature sedges and rushes usually dominate these habitats although
scattered shrubs or clumps of shrubs, particularly Salix spp. (willows), Cornus spp. (dogwoods),
and Rubus spp. (bristle- berries and dew - berries), may also be present.
Tubercled rein - orchid (Platanthera (lava var. herbiola) occurs in wet prairies and meadows, swales in
mesic prairies, or the sandy or peaty habitats along the edges of marshes, swamps, or lakeshores.
Cross - leaved milkwort (Polygala cruciata var. aquilonia) occurs on wet, sandy shores of shallow lakes
in the Anoka Sand Plain, and in sandy or peaty meadows or swales. These habitats may be in low
depressions or at the margins of emergent wetlands.
Tooth -cup (Rotala ramosior) typically occurs on the sandy shores of small, shallow lakes set in a
savanna landscape.
Bristleberry (Rubus stipulates) generally occurs on moist, sandy substrates in wetland to upland
habitats, including bogs and bog margins, lake shores, swales, marshes and marsh margins, swamps,
meadows and fields, sand prairies, woods, thickets, and roadsides.
Vermont blackberry (Rubus vermontanus) is found in forest edges, grasslands, meadows and fields.
Tall nut rush (Scleria triglomerata) is found in sand savannas and sand prairies, often in areas of sand
dune formations. They are found in localized microhabitats at each site, usually in moist soil near wet
swales or wet meadows.
Clinton's bulrush (Trichophorum clintonii) typically occurs in open, sunny habitats in moist or dry,
sandy or sandy -loam soils, although it may occur in partially shaded savanna or woodland settings.
Lance - leaved violet (Viola lanceolata) occurs in moist meadows with a sandy substrate and moist
swales in sand dunes and savannas.
Twisted yellow -eyed grass (Xyris torta) occurs in wet, sandy shores of shallow lakes in the Anoka Sand
Plain and in sandy or peaty meadows or swales.
