• <br />• <br />• <br />Park Board Meeting - February 2, 2004 <br />Minutes <br />Day. Participants will watch the Minnesota Showboats production <br />and have lunch at Forepaugh's Restaurant. Approximately thirty <br />participants are signed up for this trip. <br />Rick advised nine teams are participating in the Adult 5- Player <br />Basketball program which is no in mid - season. Fitness programs <br />Cardio Kick Boxing and Yoga saw significant increases in <br />enrollment this season. <br />The warming house shelters are operating effectively this winter. <br />There have been very few complaints over the closure of the <br />warming houses. <br />Rick noted the spring edition of the Recreation Review would be <br />in homes the last week of February. <br />Pam asked if the City is offering the Options Program again this <br />summer. Rick advised the Options Program will be offered again <br />this year at the same location as last year. <br />PARKS DEPARTMENT UPDATE: <br />Rick reviewed a memo from Mike Hoffman, Parks Supervisor, which <br />summarizes the maintenance highlights for January 2004. Rick <br />noted the maintenance activities have included daily rink <br />maintenance that includes sweeping, blowing, shoveling and <br />flooding of all the City's rinks. <br />Staff has also been assisting the Street Department with plowing <br />of parking lots, sidewalks, streets, cul -de -sacs and trails after <br />snow events. Twenty bluebird houses have been constructed and <br />will be placed in City parks and trails. <br />Rick added the annual employee performance reviews have been <br />conducted and went very well. <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br />Appoint Park Liaisons and Community Service Award Committee - <br />Rick advised each year the Park Board designates a park liaison <br />for each neighborhood park. He referred to a list of year 2003 <br />Park Liaison List as a reference. He noted a Community Service <br />Award Committee Member also should be appointed. Michael <br />O'Connor was the Park Board Representative in 2003. <br />Rick explained when neighborhood meetings occur that relate to a <br />certain park, that Park Liaison should be present. A Park <br />Liaison also gives residents someone other than City staff to <br />discuss problems, concerns, frustrations, or compliments in <br />relation to City parks. <br />4 <br />
