REI Sponsored Kids Snowshoe Fun Run <br />9 <br />Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation <br />Department <br />Proerarn Hi2hli2hts - <br />January Park Board Update <br />YOUTH <br />Youth Instructional: Our winter session programs are now <br />underway. Skating lessons, Fastpitch Pitching Clinics and Dance <br />began the second week of January. Toss, Kick and Catch, <br />Pre - Kids- er -cise, Soccer Mini Camp and Floor Hockey Mini Camp will <br />start the last week of the month /first week of February. Those enrolled in our Snack and Skate and Hockey Skills classes, <br />53 total, will be able to skate for free at Centennial Sports Center on Monday, February 21. <br />SPECIAL EVENTS <br />Snow Day: The 6th Annual Snow Day was held on January 29 from 1- 4 p.m. at Wargo Nature Center. Snow Day is a <br />cooperative event with Anoka County Parks and Recreation and Blaine Parks and Recreation. 463 people checked in with <br />our registration table this year - our highest total ever!! Event highlights included a snowflake craft project for the kids, <br />snowshoeing, ice fishing with the MN DNR's MinnAqua program, kicksledding, facepainting, snow snakes, a bonfire, <br />refreshments (courtesy of Super Target), a Kids Snowshoe Fun Run sponsored by REI (REI waterbottles were given to all <br />participants) and a magic show by Brian Richards. Overall, the event was a huge success! The only minor downfall was <br />parking (lack of parking and poorly parked vehicles). Next year we will talk with the Anoka County Park Patrol and /or the <br />Lino Lakes Police Department to see if they can help us out with parking. <br />Sweetheart Sock Hop: The Sweetheart Sock Hop, now in it's fourth year, is a cooperative event with the Centennial <br />Community Services Department and the Blaine Parks and Recreation Department. This event is scheduled for Saturday, <br />February 12 at Centennial Elementary School. Currently, 67 people registered. Activities will include dancing to music by <br />or -Kit DJ's, a valentine craft project, refreshments and photos. <br />ADULT <br />Community Outings: Our first trip of the year was held on January 27. It was a trip to the Old Log Theatre to see the <br />production Tom, Dick and Harry. Fourteen people from the Blaine and Lino Lakes area attended this trip. <br />Five Player Basketball: The regular season will conclude on February 2. The league tournament begins Wednesday, <br />February 9 and concludes on Wednesday, March 9. This is a double elimination event. <br />Fitness: Registration is lower than anticipated this season for fitness despite increased marketing. We may need to <br />reevaluated our program offerings. <br />Softball: Summer Softball information packets have been sent out and registration is set to begin for resident teams <br />starting Friday, February 18. <br />Co -Rec Indoor Soccer: We are now taking registrations for our Co -Rec Indoor Soccer League at Centennial Sports <br />Center. We anticipate filling the league again this year with 8 teams. <br />OUTDOOR SKATING RINKS <br />Warming Houses: There are three weeks left of the outdoor skating season. We'll try to keep the rinks at Birch, Sunrise, <br />and City Hall Park open until Monday, February 21. <br />RECREATION REVIEW & WEB SITE <br />Recreation Review: We are currently working on the Spring Edition of the Recreation Review. It is scheduled to be in <br />es the last week of February. We have made some changes in our department that can be seen in this edition of the <br />creation Review including a new tiered rate system, a new registration process and some program changes.
