Photo <br />back drop <br />at the 2006 <br />Sweetheart <br />Dance. <br />Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation c' <br />Department Program Highlights <br />February Park Board Update <br />SPECIAL EVENTS <br />Sweetheart Sock Hop: The 5th annual Sweetheart Sock Hop dances <br />were held on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Centennial Elementary <br />School. 86 people attended the preschool age dance for 2 -5 year olds <br />and 43 people attended the elementary age dance for K -3 graders. Despite the lower than desired turnouts, everyone <br />had a great time and the event continues to remain a successful collaboration between the Lino Lakes Parks and <br />Recreation Department, Centennial Community Services and the Blaine Parks and Recreation Department. We will <br />revisit our costs, times and dance age groups next year in an effort to increase participation. <br />YOUTH <br />Instructional Programs: Our winter session youth instructional programs are well underway. Most will end mid -March <br />and resume again with a new session after Centennial's Spring Break. <br />Snack and Skate & Hockey Skills Development: Snack and Skate and Hockey Skills just concluded. We had our <br />finale to the class on Monday, February 20 with a free indoor skate at Centennial Ice Arena from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. for all <br />participants and their families. <br />School's Out Camps: Our February 20 School's Out Camp was cancelled due to lack of registrations. We hope our <br />Spring Break camps will have better luck. We have a few outings planned as part of the camps that week and hope <br />that those will attract more participation. <br />ADULT <br />Fitness: Fitness classes are up and running. The current session will end right before Centennial's Spring Break in <br />late March. Spring session classes will start up in April and May. <br />5- Player Basketball: Men's five player basketball has started their play -offs. The tournament champion will be <br />crowned on Wednesday, March 15. The regular season champions were the Ninja Black Sox! <br />Open Volleyball and Open Basketball: Open Volleyball and Basketball will continue through mid March. We have <br />been averaging 18 volleyball players and 25 basketball players per night. <br />Softball: Spring /Summer softball registration is open and leagues are forming. The start date for the league is Monday, <br />April 24. <br />WARMING HOUSES, BROCHURE & <br />SUMMER EMPLOYMENT <br />Warming Houses: Warming houses will be open through <br />Tuesday, February 28. We have been open 49 days this <br />season! <br />Brochure: The Spring 2006 Recreation Review is out in homes <br />and on the web. Check out our current program offerings at <br />.ci.lino- lakes.mn.us. <br />IF <br />ummer Employment: We are currently accepting applications <br />for summer employment. At this time we've received a little over <br />30 applications. Interviews are scheduled to begin March 13. <br />Questions?
