• 2007 PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS Parks • Renovated Lino Park including demolishing park building, removal of 30 green ash trees, backstop, player benches and concrete pads. Regraded and imported topsoil, installed paved trail loop, irrigation system, seed bed prepped and re- seeded turf areas • Renovated Shenandoah Park boulevard area by removing 30 scrub trees, constructed low berm, replanted area with Hackberry and Red Oaks and seeded for maintained turf area • Holly Drive renovation — approximately 3,000 lineal feet of boulevard was renovated including applying herbicide, roto - tilling and regrading, seeding the areas with salt tolerant boulevard mix, watering daily with tanker truck, and applying start -up fertilizer. • Re- roofed Birch Park warming house • Installed rubber flooring at City Hall Park warming house • Cut, chipped, and stump treated buckthorn at Brandywood and Country Lakes Parks • Planted 45 trees at various locations • Renovated infields at Sunrise #3 and #4, Centennial Middle School #1 and #2 • Installed park bench and concrete pad at Arena Acres Park • Worked with Eagle Scout to install new park sign and landscaping at Birch Park • Twenty -one wood duck houses successfully hatched approximately 140 ducklings • Chipped about 150 Christmas trees at Sunrise and Birch Parks • Recreation • Processed 3,916 registrations (937 via online registration) • Summer playground enrollment was 291 participants • Youth football program (279 participants) outfitted with new uniforms for the 2007 season • Youth soccer 370 participants • Volleyball academy filled up with 43 participants • Special Events still very popular: o Sweetheart Dance - 140 participants o Family Turkey Shoot - 64 teams o Breakfast with Santa - 150 participants o Snow Day — approximately 250 participants • Cougar Soccer Camp had 65 participants • 47 participants in AbraKadoodles art program • 4th Annual TAAG Beach Party had 77 middle school -age youth participating • 43 adults took golf lessons (over 100% increase) • 374 Kites distributed on Kite Day • 220 "Letters From Santa" • 106 shoppers visited our Secret Holiday Shop • 8 Party Wagon reservations • Partnered with YMCA, Shoreview Parks and Recreation, Blaine Parks and Recreation and Arden Hills Parks and Recreation to offer teen programs • New brochure look and format — Full color cover!! • 1/3/2008 J:\Ricks Folder \Goals and Accomplish \Parks and Rec 2007 Accomplishments.doc
