Participants danced to
music by Mar -Kit DJs, made a special Valentine craft, received Valentine tattoos,
enjoyed cookies and juice, and were able to have their photos taken by our holiday
backdrop. The switch to Friday night seemed to be a positive move - families could
still have a time to celebrate the holiday without having it take up a large chunk of
their weekend. We will be continuing with the Friday night event time next year.
Our volunteers for the event were the Lino Lakes Ambassadors.
YOUTH PROGRAMS
Youth Instructional Programs: Our youth instructional programs are in full swing. Many will end mid to late March just
before the spring break holiday. Spring session will begin in April.
Snack & Skate and Hockey Skills Development: We had our annual Snack & Skate and Hockey Skills free President's
Day open skate at Centennial Arena on Monday, February 18. Twenty -two skaters took part in the event.
TEENS
Teen Sweetheart Dance: About 75 teens participated in the Teen Sweetheart Dance on Saturday, February 9 at the YMCA.
Our teen programming collaborative is still struggling to get participants to events other than teen nights, but we are going
to continue trying new programs - just less of them. We will be offering one program this spring, an Earth Day volunteer
project, and one program this summer, a Teen Jam Band Competition.
ADULTS
liklen's Basketball: Regular season has ended. The play -offs start Wednesday, February 27 and will conclude on March 26.
The regular season champion was Anoka County Credit Union...they were 8 -1.
Co -Rec Indoor Soccer League: This league is set to begin on Wednesday, March 12. We have seven teams signed up to
play this year.
Softball: Summer softball registration has begun. We will have three leagues this year. So far the registration has been
steady with all leagues expected to fill up by mid - March.
WARMING HOUSES
Warming houses and skating rinks are still going strong and we anticipate staying open through the month of February and
possibly into early March. This has been the best skating season in 5 plus years.
SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
We are now accepting applications for summer part-time positions. Positions available include: Playground Leaders,
Preschool Playtime Leaders, Soccer Instructors, Tennis Instructors,
T -Ball Instructors and Park Maintenance. Applications will be accepted
until March 21, 2008 or until all positions are filled. Interviews will
begin the last week of March. So far we have received at least two
dozen applications - many from past employees. This is a great
turnout considering we've done little advertising up until this point.
LINO LAKES NEWS
Work has just been completed on our new spring /summer guide.
Aigt be our largest guide to date at 40 pages - 24 of which are for
ecreation. The guide is scheduled to be mailed out the first week in
March. Watch for it on -line and in your mailboxes!
Questions?
