One lasbtime on the ice for the season
Lino Lakes Parks & Recreation Department
Program Highlights
March Park Board Update
YOUTH PROGRAMS
Youth Instructional Programs: Our youth instructional programs are winding
down for the season. Many have ended or will be ending this week just before
the start of the District's spring break.
TEENS
Earth Day: We are currently recruiting teens to volunteer at this year's Earth
Day. We've arranged a clean -up project for them through Anoka County's Earth
Day event and will transport them to the project as well as supervise them
during the project. In exchange for volunteering, the teens will receive a free
pass to a teen night at the Chain of Lakes YMCA. At this time we have not
received any interest in volunteering, but will continue promoting and searching
for volunteers.
ADULTS
Men's Basketball: The Men's Basketball Tournament is underway. The championship game will be played on Wednesday, March
26 between Anoka County Credit Union and the A Squad.
Spring /Summer Softball: Leagues are almost full. We will have over 30 teams playing softball this spring and summer.
Open Basketball: Open Basketball at Centennial Middle School on Monday nights had 200 participants this season.
Open Volleyball: Open Volleyball at Centennial Middle School on Friday nights had 300 + participants this season.
o -Rec Indoor Soccer: The league started on Wednesday, March 12. We have 8 teams participating in the league this year.
he games are played at Centennial Sports Arena.
WARMING HOUSES
Warming houses and skating rinks closed on March 3. This was one of our longest and most successful skating seasons in years.
SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
We have begun interviewing for summer employment positions and will continue interviewing until approximately the second week
in April. We have received numerous applications so far for summer positions, but only have a few openings to fill as we have had
a wonderful return rate this year -- over 50% of our staff from last summer is returning and in the Playground Program over 75% of
the staff are returning from last summer.
LINO LAKES NEWS - SPRING /SUMMER REGISTRATION
Spring /Summer registration started March 17. Since then 544 enrollments have been processed and over $28000 has been taken
in for program fees. Of those processed registrations, 99 were completed
on -line. This is excellent response for the first week of registration!
INTERIM RECREATION SUPERVISOR
We have a new face in our Department. Melissa Munsch is acting as our
Interim Recreation Supervisor during Liz Benoit's leave of absence for
the adoption of her daughter. Melissa will be working part-time with us as
she is currently in the process of completing her final college graduation
requirement - an internship which she is doing with the Shoreview Parks
and Recreation Department. Melissa is a student in Recreation at the
University of Minnesota and will be graduating in May. Melissa will be
conducting our summer playground program employment interviews,
Waking the final hiring decisions for the Playground Program and
ading summer playground staff training in addition to several other
duties. Welcome Melissa!
Questions? Please contact Brian Hronski or Melissa Munsch at
651- 982 -2440.
