One lasbtime on the ice for the season <br />Lino Lakes Parks & Recreation Department <br />Program Highlights <br />March Park Board Update <br />YOUTH PROGRAMS <br />Youth Instructional Programs: Our youth instructional programs are winding <br />down for the season. Many have ended or will be ending this week just before <br />the start of the District's spring break. <br />TEENS <br />Earth Day: We are currently recruiting teens to volunteer at this year's Earth <br />Day. We've arranged a clean -up project for them through Anoka County's Earth <br />Day event and will transport them to the project as well as supervise them <br />during the project. In exchange for volunteering, the teens will receive a free <br />pass to a teen night at the Chain of Lakes YMCA. At this time we have not <br />received any interest in volunteering, but will continue promoting and searching <br />for volunteers. <br />ADULTS <br />Men's Basketball: The Men's Basketball Tournament is underway. The championship game will be played on Wednesday, March <br />26 between Anoka County Credit Union and the A Squad. <br />Spring /Summer Softball: Leagues are almost full. We will have over 30 teams playing softball this spring and summer. <br />Open Basketball: Open Basketball at Centennial Middle School on Monday nights had 200 participants this season. <br />Open Volleyball: Open Volleyball at Centennial Middle School on Friday nights had 300 + participants this season. <br />o -Rec Indoor Soccer: The league started on Wednesday, March 12. We have 8 teams participating in the league this year. <br />he games are played at Centennial Sports Arena. <br />WARMING HOUSES <br />Warming houses and skating rinks closed on March 3. This was one of our longest and most successful skating seasons in years. <br />SUMMER EMPLOYMENT <br />We have begun interviewing for summer employment positions and will continue interviewing until approximately the second week <br />in April. We have received numerous applications so far for summer positions, but only have a few openings to fill as we have had <br />a wonderful return rate this year -- over 50% of our staff from last summer is returning and in the Playground Program over 75% of <br />the staff are returning from last summer. <br />LINO LAKES NEWS - SPRING /SUMMER REGISTRATION <br />Spring /Summer registration started March 17. Since then 544 enrollments have been processed and over $28000 has been taken <br />in for program fees. Of those processed registrations, 99 were completed <br />on -line. This is excellent response for the first week of registration! <br />INTERIM RECREATION SUPERVISOR <br />We have a new face in our Department. Melissa Munsch is acting as our <br />Interim Recreation Supervisor during Liz Benoit's leave of absence for <br />the adoption of her daughter. Melissa will be working part-time with us as <br />she is currently in the process of completing her final college graduation <br />requirement - an internship which she is doing with the Shoreview Parks <br />and Recreation Department. Melissa is a student in Recreation at the <br />University of Minnesota and will be graduating in May. Melissa will be <br />conducting our summer playground program employment interviews, <br />Waking the final hiring decisions for the Playground Program and <br />ading summer playground staff training in addition to several other <br />duties.
