Mrs. Klaus seconded the motion.
Motion carried.
Old Business
There was no old business to address.
New Business
Mayor Benson had attended tonight's meeting and addressed the Board
asking for a joint meeting between the City Council and the P & Z
Board. He suggested a date of January 19, which was acceptable to
the Board. A time of 8:00 A.M. was set. The meeting would not in-
clude breakfast, but rather rolls and coffee.
Mayor Benson also asked the Board to consider a start time of 7:00
P.M. for their meetings and a 10:00 P.M. finish, which would be
consistent with other City Boards. The Board agreed to this.
In order to clear up the question of why the Council interviewed
candidates for the City Planner position, Mayor Benson said that
it seemed the natural course of events for the Council to inter-
view the candidates and also because there are some cost problems
which must be taken into consideration before a decision is made.
The Board was reminded to try and remember the spirit and intent
of the city ordinances when acting on issues. Mayor Benson also
suggested acting upon issues separately, such as a rezone separately
and then a variance separately as a time saving element.
Mr. Prokop asked what kind of public feedback Mayor Benson receives,
to which he answered that some people feel intimidated simply to
appear before the Board and also the length of meetings and time
required to process applications seems longer than necessary,
The Board felt that often there is incomplete information upon which
to consider an issue. Mr. Kluegel was reminded to be sure to use
a checklist in preparing the P & Z packets. Mayor Benson stated
that he would possibly require the City Administrator to attend
future meetings and also ask him to preview the P & Z packet to
assure that all applications are complete.
The meeting adjourned at 10:10 P.M. Aye,
93
