CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION JUNE 23, 1999 <br />• CONSIDERATION OF FULL -TIME OFFICER, STEVE MORTENSON <br />• <br />A vacancy was created in the Police Department by the resignation of Officer William <br />Koch in January, 1999. <br />Staff has interviewed and tested applicants for this position and recommend that Mr. <br />Travis Muyres be given a conditional offer of employment effective on or about July 15, <br />1999, contingent upon successful completion of the background investigation and <br />psychological and medical examinations. <br />This item will appear on the agenda at the June 28th Council agenda. <br />DISCUSS NEW CIVIC BUILDINGS, ANDY NEAL <br />Council Member Neal expressed concern about moving staff into the partially completed <br />civic buildings and presented some suggestions to improve conditions for staff and the <br />public. Staff explained that substantial completion of the buildings is expected within the <br />next week. Council Member Neal's concerns either have been or wi essed within <br />the week. <br />Mayor Sullivan noted the telephone in the Senior Ce h d. She <br />explained that a telephone is needed in that are <br />Mayor Sullivan indicated that the ph ng correctly and there is adequate <br />access for citizens. Staff shoul�;�� ire "'•rs if they have complaints. She <br />asked that Council be inc tring sessions such as voice mail, E -mail, etc. <br />CONSIDERAT . <br />STAFF, LINDA <br />P • RY WAGE INCREASE FOR FINANCE <br />MITH <br />Ms. Paula Schloe d Ms. Lynn Francis are part-time employees in the Finance <br />Department. For the second year in a row, they are performing essential, higher level <br />duties for a number of months while the organization is without a Finance Director. <br />Ms. Waite Smith requested authorization to increase their salaries by 10% beginning <br />April 19, 1999, until a new Finance Director starts work. <br />The total cost for the increases to both positions is $3.37 per hour and is available from <br />salary savings from the vacant position, which was being paid $25.48 per hour. If both <br />employees work full -time for 24 weeks, the total cost for both salary increases would be <br />$3,235.20. <br />Ms. Waite Smith noted the AFSCME concurs with the recommendation. She added that <br />• neither employee received any extra compensation last year. <br />5 <br />
