TIME FOR FALL!
Program Highlights
August /September Park Board Update
SUMMER WRAP-UP
Options: The Options program ended on August 6. We received many positive comments from families
about this program. Parents really liked the variety of activities that were offered and the non - traditional
format. Many also commented that they are eagerly awaiting information about next summer's program.
Safety Camp: This year's Safety Camp, held on August 12, was the largest to date with 110 children registered. A video
is currently being produced and will be presented to the Park Board upon completion.
Party Wagon: The Party Wagon was very popular this summer. It was reserved nearly every weekend from June -
September. In addition, people have been contacting our office in regards to summer 2000 dates. Our reservation system
is adequate, but will need to be reviewed.
NEW FALL PROGRAMS
Floor Hockey Mini Camp: This new program for 4 -6 year olds is designed to teach the basic fundamentals and tech-
niques offloor hockey. Participants will be using Sofiee hockey equipment. We have had a lot of positive response to this
program - only 2 openings remain. Due to this overwhelmingly positive response, we will be adding a class in winter/
spring for 7 and 8 year olds.
FALL PROGRAMS
Fall Soccer: The Fall Soccer season is well on its way. As expected, the numbers of teams increased from 32 in 1998 to
50 this season. It may be necessary to relocate games from Rice Lake Elementary to other locations throughout the city
to accommodate the large number of people we have in this program.
Dance: Registration is going well for our fall dance classes. Due to the popularity of this program, we are offering 4 -
Preschool Dance classes, 2 - Tap and Ballet classes and 1 - Danceline class.
Martial Arts: Fall registration is not complete as of yet, but the preliminary numbers look on par with registration
numbers from past years.
Fitness: Once again, the aerobic fitness classes have strong registration numbers. We introduced a 35 -class pass for
$70. This pass is proving to be very popular with those who cannot commit to a class on a regular basis.
Adult Slow -Pitch Softball: We are coming to the final portion of the fall season. A combined total of 82 teams registered
for the summer and fall seasons - an increase offour teams from last year.
3 vs. 3 Player Basketall: We had 13 teams register this fall. This is the most we have ever had. We needed an additional
gym to accommodate all of the teams. The season will conclude on November 3.
UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENTS
Family Turkey Shoot: The Family Turkey Shoot is planned for Saturday, November 13, 1999. Last year, over 200
children and adults participated in this free family event. This year, we are planning for over 300 participants. In order
to accommodate the increase in participants, we will be creating additional event station cutouts. We are also adding a
new attraction this year - an inflatable arch bounce. With these additions, comes the need for additional volunteers.
Approximately 25 volunteers are needed to make this event a success. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact
Liz at 651- 982 -2443.
Breakfast with Santa: This year's Breakfast with Santa will be held on Saturday, December 11, 1999. Due to thepopu-
larity of this event, we are searching for a new, larger location. Traditionally, we have held this event at the Lino Lakes
Senior Center, but we are quickly outgrowing this space and are continually placing more and more people on the
waiting list. We hope to secure a new location in time for this year's event.
Winter Family Event - Work is currently underway on a cooperative winter family event with Wargo Nature Center. Our
goal is to hold the event in January or February of 2000.
Any questions? Please call Barry or Liz at 651- 982 -2440.
