• <br />• <br />• <br />COUNCIL WORK SESSION MARCH 19, 1997 <br />Rezoning of the property was discussed and several other town center developments were <br />noted. <br />Staff noted that this matter will be discussed at 6:00 p.m. on March 24, 1997 by the EDA. <br />Also on that agenda is the sale of a lot in the Apollo Business park. <br />STATUS OF WARE ROAD RECONSTRUCTION, DAVID AHRENS <br />Mr. Ahrens presented a schedule for the reconstruction of Ware Road. He was directed to <br />proceed with the schedule including the public hearing. If the benefited property owners <br />reject the assessments, a referendum will be placed on the November election ballot. If <br />the referendum is defeated, the Charter Commission will be asked for assistance in <br />determining a plan for the reconstruction of City streets. <br />Mr. Schumacher will draft a letter to the Charter Commission and place a copy of the <br />letter in the Council packets. <br />Mr. Ahrens noted that with the large amount of development i <br />reconstruction of Ware Road is a high priority project. He noted that the project will cost about $560,000. The City would be responsible <br />for approximately $250,000 of the costs and the balance would be paid by assessments to <br />the benefited property. There are 35 lots affected by the project. Some of the lots can be <br />divided. The per lot assessment would be approximately $12,600. Since this area is not in <br />MUSA, only lots with failing septic systems could hook to the sanitary sewer line. The <br />entire project would be financed by a bond issue. <br />Council discussion followed. A 20 year assessment period was suggested rather than the <br />normal 15 year assessment period. <br />
