APR-18 -2000 13:58 <br />651 292 0083 P.02'03 <br />REVIEW DRAFT <br />04/18/00 <br />Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) means the length of a straight line measured through <br />the trunk of a tree 54 inches (4.5 feet) above ground. <br />Forester means a person designated by the City with specialized knowledge of forestry <br />and aboriculture. <br />Hardwood deciduous tree includes, but is not limited to: ironwood, oak, maple (hard) <br />walnut, ash, hickory, black cherry, hackberry, honey - locust, and basswood. <br />Land disturbing activity means any excavating, grading, clearing, filling, or other earth <br />moving and land reclamation which may result in movement of: <br />■ Five thousand (5000) cubic yards anywhere in the City; <br />• One hundred (100) cubic yards per acre, or more, anywhere in the City; <br />• Within a Shoreland Overlay District, ten (10) cubic yards on steep slopes or within <br />Shore Impact Zones; or <br />• Within a Shoreland Overlay District, fifty (50) cubic years per acre. <br />Landscape architect means a person licensed by the state as a registered landscape <br />architect. <br />Pine Plantation means an area of low plant diversity consisting of a pine canopy <br />with little or no ground story or shrub layer vegetation. <br />Significant tree (coniferous /evergreen) means a healthy evergreen tree measuring a <br />minimum of twelve (12) feet in height. <br />Significant tree (hardwood deciduous) means a healthy hardwood deciduous tree <br />measuring a minimum of six (6) inches in diameter DBH, as defined herein. <br />Significant tree (softwood deciduous) means a healthy softwood deciduous tree <br />measuring a minimum of eight (8) inches in diameter DBH, as defined herein. <br />Significant woodland means a grouping or cluster of coniferous and/or deciduous trees <br />providing contiguous canopy cover over 1000 or more square feet of the property, which <br />includes hardwood deciduous trees over four (4) inches in diameter, softwood deciduous <br />trees over six (6) inches in diameter, and/or coniferous trees over six (6) feet in height, <br />and associated ground story vegetation. A woodland covering less than 1000 s.f. on a <br />property may also be considered significant if it is a continuation of a larger woodland on <br />an adjacent property, with a cumulative area of at least 1000 s.f., or if it is part of an <br />identified buffer area. <br />Softwood deciduous tree includes, but is not limited to: cottonwood, poplars /aspen, birch, <br />boxelder, catalpa, willow, silver maple and elm. <br />Tree removal means the loss of a significant healthy tree as a result of: <br />
