•
•
INDIVIDUAL PROJECT TRACKING SHEET
CITY OF LINO LAKES ENVIRONMENTAL
Agenda Item 7A -1
PROJECT #: 21 -10 Conservation Partners Grant / Buckthorn
PROJECT: Grant Application To The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources To Initiate a Buckthorn
Eradication Program In the City of Lino lakes.
DATE OF ORIGIN: February 28, 2001
TO: Environmental Board Members
City of Lino Lakes
FROM: Marty Asleson
Environmental Coordinator
OVERVIEW STATEMENTS:
• Buckthorn is a non - native invasive woodland woody plant that removes bio- diversity, is a prolific seeder, and
obscures visibility and the aesthetic qualities of our woodlands.
•The City of Lino Lakes is currently at the initial stages of buckthorn management in the Clearwater Creek 3rd
Addition, and has interest from residents in the Birchwood Acres Subdivision (See map).
•Follow -up will be needed in both cases. Working with residents on the follow -up and monitoring would be
part of this grant proposal.
•This is an excellent opportunity to begin a hands -on environmental education program with expansion to other
issues.
STAFF COMMENTS/ISSUES FOR CONSIDERATION:
• 50 % cost share proposal/ Proposal due March 30, 2001.
• 50 % city share would be soft-share (labor, chemicals, volunteers)
ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD COMMENTS: The following is a summary of the comments made by the
Board:
17apxo_& Pexpeazcov_Boap5 Xtzt 00 Aivo Awcea
