AGENDA ITEM 5D <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Marty Asleson <br />DATE: 4/25/01 <br />TOPIC: Pinnacle Towers Inc., 870 Birch <br />BACKGROUND: <br />A 510 -foot communications tower exists on the site at 870 Birch. The applicants are <br />asking for an amendment to the existing conditional use permit for a tower, to allow for <br />construction of a tower 530 feet in height. <br />In the opinion of the City Planner, the rebuilding of this tower will allow for additional, <br />and multiple use of communication industry needs. This should confine all future <br />communication tower needs to the three or four existing sites. <br />If this site were not allowed, the industry would have to pursue an alternative site in Lino <br />Lakes for this purpose. <br />• OPTIONS: <br />1. Recommend approval of the Pinnacle Tower conditional use permit to allow for the <br />construction of the replacement tower at 870 Birch Street. <br />2. Recommend denial of the Tower based on Environmental Board stated issues. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />1. Staff recommendation: approve. <br />• <br />
