• Agenda Item 6B <br />• <br />• <br />Environmental Board Meeting Date: February 27, 2002 <br />Topic: Environmental Board Goals /2001 to 2003 <br />Summary: Attached are the goals adopted by the Environmental Board for 2001. I <br />suggest evaluation of these goals as starting point to discussing goals for 2002/2003. <br />As a historical record, the Environmental Board adopted these goals in June of 2001. <br />Because of the lack of effective time at Environmental Board meetings, these goals <br />came out late. Mr. Grochala has suggested the Environmental Board get ahead of <br />the timing issue by looking at the 2003 goals, since 2002 budget is already fixed. I <br />think this is a good idea. <br />Environmental Board Goals 2001 <br />GOAL #1. Educate developers about the benefits of including prairie gardens in <br />their landscape designs. <br />Potential Activity – Provide developers with the opportunity to see examples of <br />blooming prairie gardens and to talk with the people who "maintain" them. <br />GOAL #2. Increase citizen understanding and appreciation of Lino Lakes' unique <br />environmental qualities. <br />Potential Activities — create a web site <br />Pilot Restoration Project <br />Update Environmental Board Packet <br />Encourage landscaping companies to advertise in city <br />Investigate possibility of using the "City Wagon" <br />Work with Homeowners Associations to educate and implement sound <br />conservation practices. <br />GOAL #3. Identify, and pursue preservation of, unique environmental assets of <br />the city. <br />Potential Activity -- Promote the preservation of the property located on the north <br />side of Lino Lakes Elementary. <br />GOAL #4. Restructure monthly meetings to preserve 50% (one hour) of the <br />meeting to advance our proactive goals. <br />Potential Activity— assign responsibilities (e.g., tree preservation, buffers) to <br />individual board members <br />GOAL #5. Increase communication with analogous units in other metro -area <br />cities to avoid "re- inventing the wheel" and to look for collaborative opportunities. <br />Potential Activity — develop a list of cities that have groups focused on the <br />
