The colonies seem to be on track. I did not <br />see many birds flying around the colonies at the time we visited them <br />which was late morning. Each of the colonies appeared to be at the same <br />stage of activity. Some nests are covered with leaves and cannot be <br />seen, but most of the nests out in the open had a heron or egret in them <br />depending on the site. The birds also seemed to be sitting low in the <br />nests. They were not standing. <br />At Peltier, there were herons in the colony and in the nests, several <br />hundred anyway. I counted 9 great egrets. They appeared to be two at <br />one nest and the rest were one bird per nest. They were all in an area <br />just northeast of the center of the colony. <br />We will need to see what happens next as we are getting into the <br />critical time.
