• Basin ID: Basin B
Disturbance Factors
Apparently a staging area for access to the Island. Fill/disturbance is evident along the upland access trail and as an apparent
pad in the transition to the undisturbed wetland. The surface Is hummocky with obvious peat/mineral fill piles. Extreme
evidence of subsidence in the area of the transition from disturbed upland to wetland. Occasional large voids (holes several
inches in diameter) were observed when augering soli. Boxelder in obvious upland positions have exposed roots several
inches above the current soil surface probably exposed by subsidence /consolidation /oxidation. Subsoils powdery-dry when
examined.
Floristic Features
Disturbed area dominated by reed canary grass/stinging nettle. Reed camary grass/nettle area delineated as wetland.
Transition zone contains large quantities of bucicthon both in the shrub and herb layers.
Soil Factors
Entire area near the access is probably filled /disturbed; however, some profiles looked native, others consisted of obvious fill.
Soils were generally transitional variants between upland hayden /Dundas/Markey that have been scalped /filled. Much
evidence of subsidence, including elevated tree roots in areas that have no evidence of inundation, and observed cavaties in
the subsoils. Anomalous redox concentrations indicative of a water table at approximately 30 -40 inches were observed deep
in one soil profile near the wetland boundary.
Hydrology Factors
No water to 40 inches In all profiles examined.
Other Comments
Portions of the staging area (Basin B) that were delineated as wetland may be filled to the extent that wetland hydrology is
missing.
Copyright Peterson Environmental Consulting, Inc.
